Obituary

Joseph S. Jones,aged 51, a prominent resident of Belle Vernon,died Thursday,July 25,1907,at the Mercy hospital where he was taken about ten days ago to undergo an operation for appendicitis.  He was a son of William Jones and was born on this father's farm near Webster,Pa.  At an early age he moved to Belle Vernon,where he engaged in business with his father and his uncle,S.F.Jones,under the firm name of S.F.Jones & Co.  Recently the firm had been incorporated into the Valley Deposit and Trust Company,of which he was secretary and treasurer. He was also treasurer of the Perry Manufacturing Company and an official of the Monessen Savings and Trust Company.  He was one of the organizers of the Belle Vernon lodge,F.and A.M.  Besides his parents he leaves his widow,four children,one brother and a sister. A large concourse of sorrowing friends followed his remains to his last resting place Sunday afternoon.  The services at the house were conducted by Rev. Perrin Baker,pastor of the Presbyterain Church.  The funeral was in charge of the Belle Vernon lodge F.&A.M. of which the deceased was a member.  Mr. Jones was well known throughout this section of the country and the funeral was largely attended. The interment took place in the family lot in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
