Joseph R. Pitzie Stonfer; 88; of Newell; died Tuesday; Feb. 11; 2003; in Brownsville General Hospital. He was born Nov. 8; 1914; in Newell; a son of the late John and Marie Orsega Stonfer. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict; having served 37 years with the U.S. Army. He was life member of the Newell VFW Post and Brownsville American Legion. He was preceded in death by four brothers; Jack; Louis; John and Michael Stonfer; and four sisters; Virginia Lama; Mary Ferguson; Cecil Nold and Margaret Fedutes. Mr. Stonfer was the last surviving member of his family. He is survived by numerous nieces; nephews; and great-nieces and -nephews. There will be no public viewing and private entombment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the ELEY/McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC.; Fayette City.
