Joseph P.Caputo;executive director of Fayette County Housing Authority died suddenly at 9:21 p.m.Saturday;June 21;1975;at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill (Harrisburg). He had been admitted at 8:50 p.m. Mr.Caputo;who lived at 336 Main St.;Belle Vernon;was 51. As director of the Fayette County Housing Authority;he was instrumental in the developmentof the Joseph P.Caputo Retirement Apartments;a high-rise for elderly residents;which is currently under construction in Belle Vernon. It is scheduled to be completed in August. He was also treasurer of Fayette Grocers Assoc.Realty Corp.and was active in numerous civic;fraternal and religious organizations. He was born in Belle Vernon on April 6;1924;a son of the late Frank and Barbara Desimone Caputo. He was graduated from Belle Vernon High School in 1941 and earned a certificate in business science at Douglas Business College. He was a member of St.Sebastian Catholic Church of Belle Vernon;and the Parish Council. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus;Belle Vernon Council 3026. He also belonged to the following organizations:National Assoc.of Housing & Redevelopment Oficials;Pa.Assoc.of Housing & Redevelopment Authorities;Overall Economic Development Committee for Fayette Co.Housing Committee of Uniontown;Fayette Co.Office of the Aging;Greater Uniontown Chamber of Commerce Urban Affairs Council;Uniontown Amvets Concert Band;Mon Valley Concert Band of Monongahela;where he was business manager;and the CIO Band;Monessen. He was active in the Belle Vernon Rotary Club and had served as presidnet for two terms;in 1964 and 1966. He was presently secretary-treasurer.He had been a director of Mon Valley Boy Scouts of America;former committee chariman of Boy Scout Troop 541;Belle Vernon;former Belle Vernon Planning Commission;Service Unit of the Salvation Army;Charleroi Musical Society and Belle Vernon Musical Society. He had worked for Donora Southern Railroad as a storekeeper from 1942 until 1967 and was Belle Vernon Borough secretary from Sept.1967 until Aug.1970. He had operated Caputo’s Market in Belle Vernon from 1953 until 1967. Surviving are his widow;Catherine Turtzer Caputo;one sister;Mrs.Robert (Rose) Grant of Belle Vernon;three nephews;Robert Grant and Frank Grant;both of Harrisburg;and David Grant of Belle Vernon;and one niece;Mrs.Norman (Judi) Kostelansky of Donora. Friends are being received at the Gerald R.Essey Funeral Home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Blessing services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.;followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.in St.Sebastian Catholic Church;Belle Vernon. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Belle Vernon Council 3026;Knights of Columbus;will conduct services at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Gerald R.Essey is funeral director in charge.
