Obituary

Joseph "Orphan Annie" Horan, 93, of Allenport, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005. He was born Feb. 24, 1912, in Spangler, a son of the late Peter and Mary Bryon Horan. He was a life member of Allenport Rod and Gun Club, the Allenport Volunteer Fire Department and the Roscoe Sportsmen's Association. Mr. Horan was also a member of the Old Timers Club and the Retired Employees of Allenport Plant. He was employed as a crane operator for more than 40 years by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport plant. He was honored in 1985 for many years of dedicated service as driver for the Five Town Ambulance Service. In addition to his love for playing cards, he was an avid bowler, hunter, fisherman and boater. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Donna Horan, of Allenport, a daughter and son-in-law, LaVerne and Bernard Kennedy, of Allenport, 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, three sisters, Rosemary Knox, of Charleroi, Hazel Ayers, of Belle Vernon, and Irene Wiseman, of Texas, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, on Jan. 10, 1995, a daughter, Nancy Ruth Pallo, in 1986, a sister, Pat Smith, and three brothers, Bob, Jim and Bill Horan. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC., Roscoe, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Terry Teluch, of the Roscoe United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
