Obituary

Death on Friday,December 15,1922 removed one of the pioneer citizens ot Monessen when Joseph Nicholas Alberts, aged 69 succumbed to a short illness at his home on Knox avenue. Born in Tamins, Belgium on October 1, 1853 he came to this country in 1893 and located in Duquesne and later in Charleroi. He removed to this city in 1899 and has made this place his home ever since,following his trade as bricklayer.  The deceased had always enjoyed the best of health and despite his advanced age was active and popular especially among the people of his native land, to whose interest he always gave special attention and it was while attending the funeral of John Waterloo, a fellow countryman, at Monongahela that he contracted a severe cold which caused an abscess in his head resulting in his death after less than a week's illness. Besides his wife, Julia Alberts he is survived by the following children, Jules E. of Burbank, Cal., Joseph Jr , of Charleroi, Oscar of Weirton, W. Va., Henry J. of Steubenville, Leon J. of Weirton and Mrs. Eugene Pillette of this city.
