Obituary

Joseph (Gabby) Karbowsky,66 Overhill Dr.,Monessen,died Sunday,Oct. 31,1982 at 12:30 p.m. in Frick Community Hospital,Mr. Pleasant,after an illness of three weeks.  He was 65. Mr. Karbowsky was born July 3,1917,in Belle Vernon and was a resident of Monessen for most of his life. He was retired from the Open Hearth Department of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.,Monessen,and was employed by Mon Valley Taxi Co.  He was a member of the Elks,Eagles,Third Street Polish Club,Ukrainian Beneficial Club and the Hungarian Club,all of Monessen.  He was also a member of the St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Petros Karbowsky in January,1978. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Helen Karbowsky of Lynnwood; three daughters, Mrs. Edmund (Anna Marie) Schilling of Belle Vernon,Mrs. Andrew (Gloria Jean) Varganin of Monessen and Mrs. Carl (Cheryl) Toye of Monessen; four sons, Joseph B. of Allenport, Ronald D. of New Bern, N.C. Thad of Monessen and Bradley Michael of Monessen; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Karbowsky of Lynnwood and three brothers, John of Lynnwood,William of Smithton and Walter of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received at the Robert A. Billick Funeral Home Inc. Grand Blvd.and Marion Ave.,Monessen on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Wednesday,Nov. 3,at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by services at the St. John the Divine Russian Orthodox Church at 10 a.m. with Father Stephen Romanchak officiating.  Burial will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Parastas services will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
