On Monday afternoon,August 16,1920,while in wading with a crowd of small boys on the sand bar,near Belle Vernon bridge,Joseph Belles,the seven year old son of Mr.and Mrs.Joseph Belles,sepped into a deep gully and being unable to swim,was drowned. The remains were recovered about 9:30 Monday night and taken to the home of the parents. The family is well known here,the father being employed in the local steel mill.
