Obituary

Joseph G. Savarino, 87, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at his residence. He was born Jan. 28, 1917 in Monessen, a son of the late George and Angelina Alfronte Savarino. He was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1935 graduate of Monessen High School. Mr. Savarino was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church. He was retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, having worked in the structural department. Mr. Savarino was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the coast artillery division. He also was a member of American Legion Post 28 in Monessen. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ida and Vince Delessio, a son, Edward Nelson, all of Sardis, Ohio, a brother and sister-in-law, James A. and Elizabeth M. Savarino of Belle Vernon, two sisters, Angela Indorante of Charleroi and Mary Shaffer of Belle Vernon, his grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Caskie Savarino, in 1982, two brothers, Domenick and Mario Savarino, and three sisters, Rose DiCarlo, Jennie Dalfonso and Josephine Seese. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen (724-684-8750). Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 27, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 1 p.m. Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
