He was born Feb.28;1918 in Charleroi;son of the late George and Victoria Bednarski Markovitch. His sister;Sophie;died April 22;1976. He was a member of St.Jerome’s Church;Charleroi;a World War II veteran and had lived in Charleroi his entire life. He was employed by the Charleroi Borough Street Department. Surviving are his wife;Helen (Leavor) Markovitch;two sons;Joseph Jr.of Etters;Pa.and Edward of Islen;N.J.;one daughter;Mrs.Ronald (Grace) Shrum of Linden;N.J.;two brothers;Stanley of Charleroi and Walter Holliday of Charleroi;three sisters;Mrs.Helen Gidick of Charleroi;Mrs.Mary Bolchak of Fayette City and Mrs.Laura Ornot of Charleroi;and nine grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Francis C.Slezak Funeral Home;Third St.and Fallowfield Ave.;Charleroi;from 7 to 9 p.m.Saturday and noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m.in St.Jerome’s Catholic Church;Charleroli;with Msgr.William Maher as celebrant. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
