Obituary

Joseph Francis (Joe) Walkush, 89, of North Belle Vernon, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 10:52 p.m. at his home. Born Apri1 3, 1921, in Belle Vernon, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Heretic Walkush Sr., and was the 10th of 13 children. He attended Belle Vernon High School and married Adeline Pierotti, of Wickhaven, and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Joe and Adeline raised a family of four in Belle Vernon and were lifelong members of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Parish. Joe went to work in the coal mines at an early age to support the family, and later owned two restaurants and finished his career as a mail carrier. He died as he lived, happy and surrounded by his devoted wife and children. He is survived by his wife, Adeline Pierotti Walkush, his children, Joe and Mary Walkush, Patty and Tad Kinne, Peggy Walkush and spouse, Jan Tisdale, Jonathan Walkush and spouse, Amber Derek, grandchildren, Joe and Susan Walkush, Ann, Jonathan, Greg and Declan, great-granddaughter, Adeline, brother, Melvin Walkush, sister and brother-in-law, Cecelia and Donald Sweitzer. He is preceded in death by a brother, Carl Walkush, and nine sisters, Ann Moxin, Helen McCullough, Mary Altieri, Frances Curcio, Edith Walkush, Ethel Walkush, Irene Gibson, Mildred Ward and Augustine Ezolt. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME,Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayer service will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home followed by funeral Mass at 1 p.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas, pastor, as celebrant. Entombment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian Parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Joseph F. Walkush Friday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in memory of Joseph F.
