Joseph Dwaine Gasher passed away February 17, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at Pikes Peak Hospice. Over the past year and a half he demonstrated tremendous strength while maintaining the independent lifestyle that he loved, finding happiness watching the Colorado Rockies in the summer and his beloved Broncos and Steelers in the fall. Joseph Dwaine was born in California, Pennsylvania on April 6, 1935, to Frank Dwaine Gasher and Miriam Elizabeth Lee. He and his high-school sweetheart Katherine Joan Bruni were married in 1953. After serving in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War, he and wife Joan moved to Huntington Beach, California where they raised three daughters. Joe worked as a manager of terminals in the Port of Long Beach with Matson Terminals and later with Crescent Warf and Warehouse. He and Joan retired in Pennsylvania, until her death in 1998. Joe resided the past ten years in Colorado Springs near his daughter Bonnie Holsinger, son-in-law Paul, and granddaughters Lauren and Ashley. He loved shooting pool, visits to Cripple Creek, watching baseball and football, and being with his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Miriam Gasher of California, brothers John F. Gasher of Hawaii, and Douglas L. Gasher of California, his daughters Bonnie Holsinger of Colorado, Darlene Gasher of California and Brenda Fields of Texas, four granddaughters and four great grandchildren. A military ceremony will be held in Pennsylvania where Joseph will be laid to rest near his loving wife. The family wishes to thank the many friends, healthcare professionals and volunteers who have made such a difference in Joe’s life during the past year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any contributions be made to the Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903-3624.
