Joseph E. Walko of 834 Hill St.,Belle Vernon, died Wednesday,July 9,1986,at 12:24 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital. He was 69. Mr. Walko was born Feb. 3,1917,in Monessen, a son of the late Stephen and Mary Kanchuga Walko. A Belle Vernon resident the past 45 yeas, he was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Walko in 1964 and by a sister, Ann. Mr. Walko retired in 1975 with 39 years of service at the blast furnace of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation's Monessen Plant. Survivors include his wife, Helen Sarnosky Walko; two sons, Joseph J.and Donald "Bear" Walko,both of Belle Vernon,one daughter, Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Kirschner of Rostraver Township, one brother, Mike Walko, two sisters, Mildred Carlock of Belle Vernon R.D. and Evelyn Kostelak of Fairhope and four grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon, where a Prayer service will be held Saturday,July 12,at 9:30 a.m.,followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C.Church, Belle Vernon. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
