Obituary

Joseph B. Tintori, 91, of Baltimore Street, North Belle Vernon, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002. A son of the late Marco and Eugenia Tintori, he was born May 4, 1911, in North Belle Vernon. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church of Belle Vernon, the Holy Name Society, the Belle Vernon Lions Club, a life member of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, the District 5 Democratic Club, and a former board member of both the Belle Vernon Public Library and the Bellmarette School Board. Mr. Tintori's political career covered 44 years with six full terms as a councilman and 3 terms as Mayor of North Belle Vernon. In 1997, he was honored as 'Man of the Year' by the Westmoreland Columbus 500 Club. A lifelong Belle Vernon resident, he worked for 16 years at the Irvin Works of U.S. Steel and retired in 1975 from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. after 34 years. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Paterra Tintori, a daughter, Claire Tintori of Pittsburgh, and a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kaaren Tintori of Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Viviani, and three brothers, Pete, Hugo and Alfred. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., (724-929-5300), a Golden Rule Member Firm, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, where a prayer service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Sebastian R.C. Church at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. John Cindric, VF, pastor of St. Sebastian Church, the Rev. Donald Nesti, CSSp of Houston, Texas, and the Rev. Donald J. Mondello, Holy Family R.C. Church of Latrobe, as co-celebrants. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The members of the Belle Vernon Lions Club will hold services in the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m., followed by a service by members of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday, the rosary will be prayed in the funeral home at 3 p.m., led by members of St. Sebastian Parish.
