Joseph A.Rovny of 317 spiker Ave.;Belle Vernon;died Tuesday;March 11;1986;at 7 a.m.in Mon Valley Hospital;Carroll Twp. He was 70. Born Nov.6;1915;in Roscoe;he was a son of the late George and Susie Rovny. Mr.Rovny was preceded in death by a sister. A lifelong Mon Valley resident;he was a member of St.Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Roscoe. He retired from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.;Allenport Plant;where he worked in the slab yard. A veteran of World War II;Mr.Rovny served with the U.S.Navy. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 11 stars;the World War II Victory Medal;the American Area Campaign Medal;the Navy unit commendation and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr.Rovny was a member of the Roscoe American Legion Post 801;the Loyal Order of Moose;Roscoe Lodge 338;and the Slovak Beneficial Society of Roscoe. Surviving are his wife;Florence Strychalski Rovny;a son;Joseph Rovny of Roscoe;three stepsons;Charles Sztroin of Belle Vernon;Myron Sztroin with the U.S.Marine Corps in Maryland;and Gary Sztroin;at home;a stepdaughter;Mrs.Michael (Gloria) Bennett of Belle Vernon;two brothers;John Rovny of Fairless Hills and George of Coal Center;four sisters;Mrs.Mary Cairns of Roscoe;Anna of the state of California;Milly Rovny of Roscoe and Mrs.Harold (Helen) Davis of Roscoe;one granddaughter and two step-grandsons. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;where blessing services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. On Friday;March 14;prayers at the funeral home will begin at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St.Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Roscoe with Rev.Robert Kohuch;pastor;as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
