Obituary

Joseph A. Semancik, 77, of Belle Vernon (Washington Township), went to meet his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Health System, Jefferson Borough. Born Dec. 27, 1931, in Washington Township, he was the youngest of 10 children of the late Michael P. and Elizabeth Gurbal Semancik. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, Mr. Semancik was a member of St. Sebastian R.C. Church, Belle Vernon, having previously attended the former Holy Spirit Church, Fayette City, and retired in June as a custodian from Belle Vernon Area School District. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War with the military police at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Fayette City American Legion Post 484 and the Catholic Sokols Union. He was also formerly employed at the Page Plant in Monessen and the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Allenport plant. Joe loved spending his time with family and friends and listening to polka parties on the radio. He is survived by a brother, Steve Semancik of Abingdon, Va., a sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Oscar Kluh, of Potomac, Md., nieces and nephews, Helene Wozniak, Joan and John Ciccarelli, Lawrence and Cecelia Semancik, Pat and Sigfried Trauger, Bob and Cindy Semancik, Mary Ann and Wayne Davis, Dorothy and Bill Schmidt, Barb and Jim Deutsch, Dennis Semancik, Andy and Louise Semancik, Steve and Peggy Semancik, Dianne Semancik, Kathy Calcek, Connie and Rich Glasgow, Judy and Don Dodds, Frank and Sharon Semancik, Helene and Larry Roybal, Anne Marie Semancik, Lisa Semancik, John Semancik, Rich and Julie Semancik, Joe and Claudia Kluh, Mike Kluh, Chris Kluh, John and Liz Kluh, godson Tony and wife Charlene Semancik, Paul and Susan Hayduk, Fran and Jack Koschalk to whom he entrusted his care, and numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Albert, Andrew, Michael, Frank Sr., John and Anthony P. Semancik Sr., a sister, Mary Miller, and a nephew, Mickey Semancik. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon, 724-929-6183. Prayer Service will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. in the funeral home followed by funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of Joseph Semancik Friday at 3 p.m. and the Fayette City American Legion will conduct services Friday at 7 p.m., both in the funeral home.
