Obituary

J. Orton Clawson,71,president of the First National Bank of Belle Vernon for the past 10 years,died Saturday,September 26,1953,at 9:15 p.m. in his home,102 Vine St.,Belle Vernon. Born in Carmichaels,Greene County,he moved to Brownsville in 1900 where he learned watchmaking. Mr. Clawson was graduated from Bowman Technical School in Lancaster and in 1906 established the Clawson Jewelry Store in Belle Vernon.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in which he was a deacon and later an elder.  Twice elected to the Belle Vernon Borough Council,he served as president both times. Mr. Clawson was a past master of Belle Vernon Lodge No.643,F.and A.M.,past master of the Uniontown Lodge of Perfections,a member of the Pennsylvania Consistory and the State Supreme Council of Deliberation.  Survivors are his wife, Mary Daugherty Clawson;two daughters,Mrs. Mary Jean Goeppinger,of Warren, Ohio,and Mrs. Betty C. Conklin of Bethany,W.Va.,a son, James O. Clawson Jr.,and two grandchildren. Friends will be received at his late home.  Services will be held there Wednesday,September 30,1953,at 2 p.m.,and interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Rev. H.D. Hough of the Clairton Presbyterian Church and Rev. George Clark of the Belle Vernon Presbyterian Church,will be in charge of services.  Chas.L.Melenyzer and Shelby D. Ferguson are the funeral directors.
