Obituary

Jonathan M. Murt, 22, of Belle Vernon (Rostraver Township), passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, as a result of injuries sustained in a fire at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. Jonathan was born in Pittsburgh on Feb. 10, 1985, the son of Thomas W. and Mary Lou Malinchak Murt. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon and a 2003 graduate of Belle Vernon Area High School, where he was a three-year varsity letterman and team captain in basketball. He also excelled in baseball and volleyball. Jonathan graduated with honors from West Virginia University with a degree in electrical engineering and was a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Rho Chapter of ETA KAPPA NU electrical and computer engineering fraternity. He just recently began to flourish in his professional life with Converteam Inc., where he recently returned from a three-month company assignment in San Diego, Calif., and was looking forward to his next venture. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Thomas J. Murt and wife, Patricia, of Canonsburg, his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Malinchak, of Monessen, his aunts and uncle, Debra and Dr. John Danek, of Craven Hill, who also were his godparents, and Patricia Nandor, of Jeannette, and two cousins, Lauren and John J. Danek. Friends will be received Thursday, Jan. 31, from 2 to 9 p.m. in the ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME, 40 Second St. Ext., Donora (724-379-6900), where a Blessing service will be held Friday, Feb. 1, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Sebastian R.C. Church, Belle Vernon, with the Rev. Lawrence Manchas as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
