Obituary

John William Stewart Gaul,a former Belle Vernon fire chief and Legion commander,died in Shadyside Hospital,Pittsburgh,Tuesday,Feb.18,1964 at 8:45 a.m. Mr.Gaul who lived at 704 Fayette Road,Lynnwood,Belle Vernon,had been a hospital patient for the past three weeks. He was 69 years of age. He was a past commander and charter member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and a past chief of the Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Dept. No.2. He was also a member of the Belle Vernon Christian Church. He retired from the Monessen Southwestern Railroad,Pittsburgh Steel Co.,in 1961. Surviving are his widow,Mrs.Myrtle Van Riper Gaul,two daughters,Mrs.Robert (Jacqueline) Baldwin,Massawados,Va.,and Mrs.Louis (Constance) Ceccarelli of Belle Vernon. Five grandchildren also survive. Friends will be received at the Harold R.Toner Funeral Home in Belle Vernon after 7 p.m.,Feb.19. Service there at 2 p.m. Friday,Feb.21,in charge of the Rev.J.David Barkley,pastor of the First Methodist Church in Belle Vernon. Interment,Belle Vernon Cemetery. Harold R.Toner,funeral director.
