Obituary

John William Ashley,72,of 220 Frederick St.,Lynnwood,died in the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital Friday,Jan.3,1964,at 11:30 p.m. He was born in Black Diamond Dec.8,1891. He was a member of St.Mary's Episcopal Church of Charleroi,and was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659,Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 167,Charleroi,and Mon Valley Barracks 350,World War I Veterans. He is survived by his widow,Mrs.Blanche Ashley,two daughters,Mrs.Clinton (Ruth) Veach of Lynnwood,Mrs.Anthony (June) Spalla of Charleroi,one grandson Donald J.Evans whom he raised,two brothers,Albert of Monessen,Jesse of Butler,six sisters,Mrs.Rose Kissell and Mrs.Emily Kissler of Fairhope,Mrs.Edith Shopshire of Youngstown,Ohio,Mrs.Essie Ogg,Irwin,R.D.1,Mrs.Janet Grant,Hershey,and Mrs.Margaret Illensky of Monessen. Two great grandchildren also survive. Friends will be received at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home,Belle Vernon,beginning Sunday at 7 p.m. Services will be held there Tuesday,Jan.7,at 1:30 p.m.in charge of the Rev.Joseph N.Wittkoiski. Interment,Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson of Belle Vernon is the funeral director.
