John William Ashley;72;of 220 Frederick St.;Lynnwood;died in the Charleroi-Monessen Hospital Friday;Jan.3;1964;at 11:30 p.m. He was born in Black Diamond Dec.8;1891. He was a member of St.Mary’s Episcopal Church of Charleroi;and was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659;Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 167;Charleroi;and Mon Valley Barracks 350;World War I Veterans. He is survived by his widow;Mrs.Blanche Ashley;two daughters;Mrs.Clinton (Ruth) Veach of Lynnwood;Mrs.Anthony (June) Spalla of Charleroi;one grandson Donald J.Evans whom he raised;two brothers;Albert of Monessen;Jesse of Butler;six sisters;Mrs.Rose Kissell and Mrs.Emily Kissler of Fairhope;Mrs.Edith Shopshire of Youngstown;Ohio;Mrs.Essie Ogg;Irwin;R.D.1;Mrs.Janet Grant;Hershey;and Mrs.Margaret Illensky of Monessen. Two great grandchildren also survive. Friends will be received at the Shelby D.Ferguson Funeral Home;Belle Vernon;beginning Sunday at 7 p.m. Services will be held there Tuesday;Jan.7;at 1:30 p.m.in charge of the Rev.Joseph N.Wittkoiski. Interment;Belle Vernon Cemetery. Shelby D.Ferguson of Belle Vernon is the funeral director.
