Obituary

John Ward Willits Jr.,68,of RD3,Bedford Road,Cumberland,MD.,died Saturday,Oct. 22,1983,at his residence. Born April 7,1915 in Ford City,Pa.,he was a son of the late John Ward Willits Sr.and Nell (Moyer) Willits.  Two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death. Mr. Willits came to Cumberland as an employee of PPG Industries when the plant here was being built. He became superintendent of the wareroom there and,before retirement,he was field representative for the Southeast United States. He was a graduate of Westminster College,New Wilmington,Pa.,and was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Cumberland Country Club.  He had been in Cumberland for 27 years.  During World War II,he served as a lieutenant in the Navy. Surviving are his widow,Mrs. Janet (Claybaugh) Willits; a son,John Willits,of Myrtle Beach,S.C.; a daughter,Miss Janet Willits,at home;two sisters,Mrs. Harold Robinson,of Pittsburgh,Pa.and Mrs. Alfred Gates,of Turtle Creek,Pa. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home by a nephew,the Rev.Herbert G.Gates,assisted by the Rev. William Moody.  Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to the National Association for Retarded Citizens.
