John W.Cox of 221 Collinsburg Road;West Newton;was pronounced dead on arrival at Frick Community Hospital;Mount Pleasant;on Saturday;Jan.26;1985 at 1 a.m. He was 79. Mr.Cox was born Oct.20;1905;in Sheffield;Alabama. A resident of Monessen most of his life;he had lived in West Newton the past four years. He was a member of Wayman A.M.E.Church;Monessen. Mr.Cox was also a member of OK Lodge 697 IPOE of W;F&AM Lodge 79 and the NAACP. He was preceded in death by his wife;Mary;and by a son and a daughter;Vernon and Audrey Cox. Survivors include one grandson;Vernon Cox II of Mt.Pleasant;two step-sons;Frank Rawlins of Monessen and Robert Rawlins of Oxnard;Calif.;four step-daughters;Alberta Holmes;Alice Ingram;Bettie Love and Patricia Kizzie;all of Monessen;a devoted friend;Stellena Hargrove of West Newton;22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the William R.Taylor Funeral Home;645 McMahon Ave.;Monessen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday;Jan.30;at 11 a.m. at Wayman A.M.E.Church;Monessen;with the Rev.George Emory Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The William R.Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
