Obituary

John W.Cox of 221 Collinsburg Road,West Newton,was pronounced dead on arrival at Frick Community Hospital,Mount Pleasant,on Saturday,Jan.26,1985 at 1 a.m. He was 79. Mr.Cox was born Oct.20,1905,in Sheffield,Alabama. A resident of Monessen most of his life,he had lived in West Newton the past four years. He was a member of Wayman A.M.E.Church,Monessen. Mr.Cox was also a member of OK Lodge 697 IPOE of W,F&AM Lodge 79 and the NAACP. He was preceded in death by his wife,Mary,and by a son and a daughter,Vernon and Audrey Cox. Survivors include one grandson,Vernon Cox II of Mt.Pleasant,two step-sons,Frank Rawlins of Monessen and Robert Rawlins of Oxnard,Calif.,four step-daughters,Alberta Holmes,Alice Ingram,Bettie Love and Patricia Kizzie,all of Monessen,a devoted friend,Stellena Hargrove of West Newton,22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the William R.Taylor Funeral Home,645 McMahon Ave.,Monessen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday,Jan.30,at 11 a.m. at Wayman A.M.E.Church,Monessen,with the Rev.George Emory Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The William R.Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
