John T. Hess,78,of 317 First Ave.,Lynnwood,died Friday,Feb. 24,1978 at 9:30 a.m. in Charleroi Division of Mon Valley Hospital. Born in Dunlevy on Nov.3,1899,he was a lifelong resident of the Mon Valley. Mr. Hess retired in 1968 from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.where he had worked as an engineer. He was preceded in death by his parents,William and Sarah Hess,and by a son,Thomas Hess,in 1974. Surviving are his widow,Frances Thomas Hess;one daughter,Mrs. Edward (Lois) Fowler of Pittsburgh;three sisters, Mrs. Anna Byrne of Baltimore,Md.,Mrs. Carl (Elizabeth) Garrett of Monessen and Mrs. Roberta Davis of Fairhope;one brother,Robert Hess of Cannonsburg;five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Hartzell A. Michael of the Lynnwood Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Leonard J. Parzynski is funeral director in charge.
