Obituary

John Smichnick,79,of 1111 Brown St.,Belle Vernon,died Wednesday,June 5,1991,at 5:25 p.m. in Haven Crest Inc.,Carroll Township. Born April 11,1912,in Mt.Pleasant,he was the son of the late Samuel and Eva Novak Smichnick. A lifelong member of the Belle Vernon community,Mr.Smichnick was Orthodox by faith. He retired in 1975 from the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.,where he had operated the drop hammer in the blacksmith shop. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by three brothers,Mike,Metro and William Smichnick. Surviving are his wife,Eva Backo Smichnick,one daughter,Mrs.Albert S.(Joanna) Granato of Long Branch,one grandson,Kevin S.Granato of Long Brance,two great-grandchildren,Brandon and Natalie Granato,one brother,Joe Smichnick of Monongahela,and three sisters,Mrs.Ed (Mary) Donnini of Jeannette and Ann Mongelluzzo and Mrs. Sirio (Julia) Sasselli,both of Donora. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where a blessing service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev.John Kluchko,pastor of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church,Belle Vernon,officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral home.
