Obituary

John Simmons, 97, of Fayette City, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Kenny Clinton and Maggie Susan Moats Simmons, he was born in Doe Hill, WV on January 28, 1919. John served his country in the US Navy during the WWII battle of Normandy. A resident of Fayette City for most of his adult life, he was a member of Holy Resurrection Church of Belle Vernon and the Hungarian Club in Fayette City, a former member of Fayette City/Washington Township Lions Club, and was employed by Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel until his retirement in 1978. Survivors include his wife Anna Bezego Simmons, whom he married in 1940; his daughter, Charlene Butcher of Fayette City; granddaughter, Cassandra (Jarred) Bozek of Belle Vernon; granddaughter-in-law, Bridgette Butcher of Fayette City; and two great grandsons, Jaxson Bozek and Logan Butcher. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, William and Carrol Simmons; one sister, Sadie Mae Dogh; and a grandson John Butcher in 2010. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Wednesday in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., (724-929-5300), 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon. www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com. Friends and family will gather for a 10 A.M. service on Thursday in Holy Resurrection Church with Fr. Lawrence Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. A Parastas service will be in the funeral home at 7 P.M. Wednesday.
