Obituary

John P. Thorpe, 68, of Perryopolis, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late John and Margaret Usher Thorpe, he was born May 12, 1936. Formerly of Rostraver Township, he had resided in Perryopolis for the past 10 years. Mr. Thorpe had been a coal miner in West Virginia. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Alois Thorpe of West Newton, three brothers, Robert Thorpe of Anaheim, Calif., Gene Thorpe of Grindstone and Ronald Thorpe, and three sisters, Pearl McCoy of York, Charlotte Santo of Roscoe and Donna Lessman of Charleroi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Hanna Jones and Edith Mowery, and two brothers, Stewart U. and Mickey Lee Thorpe. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE, (724-929-5300), a Gold Rule Member Firm, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be in the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard C. Klein, pastor of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
