A family picnic party from Belle Vernon had a fatal ending Sunday afternoon,July 25,1920, when two autos collided on the National Pike at Hopwood, about three miles from Uniontown, causing the death of two persons and the injury of three others. The party, traveling in two autos left early Sunday morning and after enjoying their lunch in the mountains were on the homeward journey when one of the drivers, Bastesto Briacico attempted to pass the other car driven by Carmine Mitchell. As the machines ran abreast the rear wheels touched and the machine driven by Briacico rolled over an embankment, while the other turned over on the road . John Nuzzo, aged 32 and Guido Lettore, aged 29, both well known residents of Belle Vernon, received fractured skulls and died a few minutes after being admitted to the Uniontown hospital. Mr.Nuzzo is well known here and just recently purchaed a barber shop in the Hotel Province building at North Belle Vernon.
