Obituary

John M. McLaughlin, 83, of Belle Vernon, Lynnwood, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at 4:20 p.m. at Forbes Hospice at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Dec. 19, 1926, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Patrick and Ann Duffy McLaughlin. A resident of Lynnwood for the past 53 years, Mr. McLaughlin was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for over 40 years, was a retired Tier Truck Driver from Fisher Body, West Mifflin, and was a member of the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council 3026. He is survived by his wife, Betty Chadderton Leopold McLaughlin, to whom he was married 53 years, son and daughter-in-law, John and Shelby McLaughlin, of Belle Vernon, three daughters and son-in-law, Brenda and Ed Zongker, of El Dorado, Kan., Eileen McLaughlin, of Pittsburgh, and Bernadette McLaughlin, of Pittsburgh, brother, Dennis McLaughlin, of Pittsburgh, two sisters, Margaret Sperduta, of Pittsburgh, and Gloria Cacco, of Pittsburgh, eight grandchildren, Joshua Leopold, Benjamin Leopold, Rachel St. Martin, Jaime Ludwick, Peter Knoop, Jesiah Zongker, Daniel Zongker, John McLaughlin, two great-grandchildren, Atticus St. Martin and Zachary Mitchell. He is preceded in death by a stepson, Daniel A. Leopold Jr., and numerous brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 29, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, (724) 929-6183. Prayer service will be held Monday, Aug. 30, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas, pastor as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St. Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of John McLaughlin Sunday at 3 p.m. and the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus will conduct services Sunday evening at 7 p.m., both in the funeral home.
