John L.Matta;80;of 421 Forrest Ave.;Monessen;died Wednesday;Sept.18;1985;at 12;25 p.m.in Haven Crest Convalescent Home;Carroll Township;following a declining illness. Born in Olean;Pa.;July 12;1905;he was a son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Matta. Mr.Matta was a resident of Monessen for most of his adult life. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp’s Allenport plant;where he had worked in the maintenance department. Mr.Matta was an Army-Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of St.Leonard Church;Monessen;the Hungarian Club and MARS. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by two brothers;Michael Matta and John Kaylo. Surviving are his wife;Helen Chackovics Matta;two brothers;Paul Matta of Monessen and George Matta of New york;and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Billick Funeral Home;Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue;Monessen;where a blessing service will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St.Leonard Catholic Church;Monessen;with Father Patrick J.O’Conner officiating. Interment wil follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Billick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
