Obituary

John L.Matta,80,of 421 Forrest Ave.,Monessen,died Wednesday,Sept.18,1985,at 12,25 p.m.in Haven Crest Convalescent Home,Carroll Township,following a declining illness. Born in Olean,Pa.,July 12,1905,he was a son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Matta. Mr.Matta was a resident of Monessen for most of his adult life. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp's Allenport plant,where he had worked in the maintenance department. Mr.Matta was an Army-Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of St.Leonard Church,Monessen,the Hungarian Club and MARS. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by two brothers,Michael Matta and John Kaylo. Surviving are his wife,Helen Chackovics Matta,two brothers,Paul Matta of Monessen and George Matta of New york,and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Billick Funeral Home,Grand Boulevard and Marion Avenue,Monessen,where a blessing service will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St.Leonard Catholic Church,Monessen,with Father Patrick J.O'Conner officiating. Interment wil follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Billick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
