John Leon Novak, 75,of Charleroi,died Sunday,July 14,1996,in the Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born on Jan.11,1921,in Bentleyville,the son of the late John and Lillian Jewell Dodson Novak. Mr. Novak was a World War II veteran,having served in the Infantry Division,Second Platoon. He was retired from the U.S.Postal Service with 30 years of Service,and after his retirement he worked for the former Melinchak Funeral Home and Fisher's Big Wheel store,both of Charleroi. He was also a member of the First Christian Church of Charleroi,where he served as chairman of the board and as an elder for many years. He was raised to elder emeritus on June 30,1996,a high honor in the church. Before his illness,he was a contact chairman of the sick and shut-in members of the church. Mr. Novak was very active in Boy Scoutng and was a leader of the Explorer Scout post of Charleroi,where he received the Order of the Arrow honors. His other club affiliations include the F. & A.M. Lodge 615 of Charleroi,where he was past master of the lodge during its 75th anniversary,and the American Legion Post 22 of Charleroi. Survivors include his wife of 54 years,Albertine Alexander Novak;a son and daughter-in-law,Dr. Louis K. and Jill Novak of Paris,Texas;two granddaughters,Heather and Hilary and one great-granddaughter,Caitlyn Bre McIntire; a sister,Mrs. Albert (Marie) Crowe of St. Petersburg,Fla.;and a brother,Don W. Novak of Bentleyville. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home,Inc.,226 Fallowfield Ave.,Charleroi. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the First Christian Church,Walnut Ridge Road,Fallowfield Township,with the Rev. Rebecca Ball officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Masonic services will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. The Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.
