John Joseph Lander,aged 81 years,424 First street,died Saturday Jan. 20,1951,at 3:30 p.m. at his late residence after an illness of two years. The eeceased was born on Jan.31,1869,in Dortmund, Germany. He came to Monessen from Braddock,Pa.,in 1909 to accept a position as foreman of the Galvanizing Department of the Pittsburgh Steel Company. In 1913 he became superintenent of the Wire Mill until 1926 when he retired for a three year period,returning later as forman of the Rod Inspection Dept. He retired permanently in June 1949. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks,Monessen. His wife preceded him in death nine years ago. Surviving are two daughters,Mrs. Carl Chaverin,Monessen and Miss Wilma E. Lander,a teacher in Monessen High School,at home. A sister,Mrs. Liza Zigler,Dortmund,and 3 grandchildren also survive. Friends are being received at the Rhome Funeral Home,McKee avenue until Tuesday,Jan.23,when funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. st St. Leonard's R.C.Church with Rev. Owen J. Kirby officiating. Private interment at Belle Vernon Cemetery. H. Denver Rhome,funeral director.
