Rev.John J.Hughes died Thursday,May 27,1948,at his late residence,1060 Schoonmaker avenue. He was a member of the Bethlehem Temple No.2 and had resided in Monessen the past 20 years. Surviving are his wife,Theofa Hughes; five sons,James,of Philadelphia,Jerry,Samuel,Robert and Joseph,at home;five daughters,Mrs.Charles Thompson,Ruth,June,Betty and Helen,all at home. Two brothers,Duncan of Newbern,S.C.,and Jerry,of Atlantic City,N.J.,also survive along with four grandchildren. Friends are being received at the Edith M.Whitaker Funeral Home,645 McMahon avenue,until Tuesday,June 1,when services will be held at 1 p.m.at the Wayman A.M.E.Church,in charge of Rev.L.A.Cousin.
