Obituary

John J. Sklenka, 86, of Belle Vernon, Rostraver, formerly of Ocala, Fla., died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at the home of his daughter in North Huntingdon. Born May 3, 1925, in Reduction, he was the son of the late John P. and Mary (Lipty) Sklenka. Catholic by faith, John was a union organizer for many years and was president of Teamsters Local 636. He served in the Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Julia H. (Cicak) Sklenka, son, Paul M.(Debbie) Sklenka, of Rostraver, with whom he made his home, daughter, Julia A. (Herbert) Cooper, of North Huntingdon, four grandchildren, Vicky (Ted) Boyd, Eric (Melanie) Cooper, Michael Sklenka and Johnathon Sklenka, two stepgrandchildren, Ralph and Philip Lint, four great-grandchildren, Emily, Tabitha, Brendan and Aubrey, a stepgreat-grandchild, Hannah, sister, Mary O'Callaghan, of McKees Rocks, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Wendy Cooper Fabyanic. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Church of St. Anne, Rostraver, with the Rev. Vincent J. Gigliotti officiating. Entombment, with military honors, will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to The American Respiratory Alliance of Western PA, Cranberry Professional Park, 201 Smith Drive, Suite E, Cranberry Township, PA 16066.
