John Hela Sr.; 85; of Jefferson Township; died Thursday; May 6; 2004; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born Oct. 8; 1918; in Fayette City; a son of the late George and Sophia Dorchincez Hela. He was a Veteran of World War II; having served with the U.S. Army. Mr. Hela was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Belle Vernon and retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Monessen Plant. He was preceded in death by five brothers; George; Mike; Pete; Andrew and Steve; and one sister; Ann Kushnar. Surviving is his wife; Julia Lucas Hela; his children; Marcia Hela of Mt. Pleasant and John Hela Jr.; at home; one brother; Charles Hela of Jefferson Township; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC.; 334 Main St.; Fayette City; on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.; Sunday from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday; May 10 until 10 a.m.; when a blessing service will take place in the funeral home with Rev. Fr. John Kluchko as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
