John F. Litavec; 74; of Charleroi; died Monday; Aug. 23; 2004; in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born March 18; 1930; in Roscoe; a son of the late Joseph Sr. and Mary Bury Litavec. He was a member of Mary; Mother of the Church Parish of Charleroi; Charleroi Elks Lodge 494; Monongahela Elks Golf and Euchre League and Mary; Mother of the Church Euchre League; and he was a life member of the Italia Unita Club. He was a 1947 graduate of Charleroi High School and a graduate of Pittsburgh Technical School. Mr. Litavec was retired as a manufacturing engineer at the RCA Plant; Meadowlands. Mr. Litavec was a U.S. Army veteran with service in the Military Police; in both the active Army and Reserves. He served at many stateside posts as well as service during the occupation of Germany after World War II. He was recalled to active duty upon the outbreak of the war in Korea and served five active and three years in the reserves. Mr. Litavec was an avid outdoorsman; and his greatest joy was hunting; fishing and golfing with his two sons. He also had a love for gardening. Mr. Litavec was a soccer player for Roscoe in the Washington County League and Moon Run in the Keystone League. He is survived by his wife; Dorothy Celaschi Litavec; with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on Sept. 25; 2004; two sons and daughters-in-law; Douglas and Eileen Litavec of Huntsville; Ala.; and David and Andreja Litavec of Lawrenceville; Ga.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law; Paul and Betty Litavec of Grindstone; Father Edward S. Litavec of St. Mary Czestochowa Parish in McKeesport and Thomas and Christy Litavec of Jefferson Estates; six sisters and five brothers-in-law; Mary and John Krofchek of Coraopolis; Susan and Hubert Braunegg and Agnes and Paul Braunegg; all of Charleroi; Ann and Frank Krupa of Warren; Helen Litavec of Roscoe and Dorothy Ann and Ronald Reeves of Alexandria; Va.; four grandchildren; Autumn; Jessica; Jordan and Jacob Litavec; and two step grandchildren; Brittany and Larissa Heaton. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by one brother; Joseph Litavec Jr. Friends will be received in the CARL J. SPALLINO FUNERAL HOME; 819 Fallowfield Ave.; Charleroi; on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday; Aug. 27; at 10 a.m. in Mary; Mother of the Church; followed by entombment in the mausoleum at Belle Vernon Cemetery.
