John ‘Ed’ Martin; 85; of Belle Vernon; went to be with the Lord on Thursday; December 6; 2012 in UPMC Mercy Hospital; Pittsburgh. A son of the late Harry ‘Bud’ and Dorothy Abbey Martin; he was born in Belle Vernon on September 18; 1927. Ed was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon; where he was very active; and served as a trustee and deacon. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; he had served in Guam with the U.S. Air Force following World War II and retired in 1983 from the Irvin Works of U.S. Steel. Survivors include his wife of 64 years; Freeda Mae Casteel Martin; one son; Ed Martin; Jr.; one sister; Grace Trembach; all of Belle Vernon and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by a brother; Harry Eugene Martin.
