Obituary

John Chauncey Shives of Northfield,Ohio,formerLy of Brownsville,died Monday,July 27,1987,in Northfield,Ohio. He was 82. Mr.Shives was born Dec.16,1904,in Orient.Pa. A retired teacher of Chemistry,Physics and Science,Mr.Shives taught high school classes in the Brownsville,Belle Vernon,East Bethlehem Township and Redstone school districts. He was a 1921 graduate of Redstone High School and was also a graduate of Bethany College. He retired following completion of teaching assignments in the Beechwood and Maple Heights school systems in Ohio. Mr.Shives also coached basketball,football,track and baseball and served as athletic director for the Chrysler Corporation during World War II. His wife,Edith Finley Shives,and three sisters are deceased. Surviving are two daughters,Chloe Roule of Twinsburg,Ohio,and Sally Ramseck of Gilroy,Calif,one son-in-law,James Roule of Northfield,Ohio,four grandchildren,Martin Ramseck,Tami Roule Sealy,Michael Ramseck and Lori Leigh Roule and one sister,Audrey Schomp of Sebastian,Fla. Friends will be received Thursday (July 30) from 7 to 9 p.m.in the Andrew J.Skirpan Funeral Home,135 Park St.,Brownsville. Graveside services and burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m.at Belle Vernon Cemetery,Belle Vernon,with the Rev.Kathy Higgens,pastor,First United Methodist Church,Brownsville,officiating. The family suggests contributions by made to the First United Methodist Church,Brownsville. The Andrew J.Skirpan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
