John B.Skurkay;76;of 207 Johnson Ave.;Belle Vernon;died suddenly AT 7:40 a.m. Sunday;Nov.22;1992;in Mon Valley Hospital;Carroll Township. Mr.Skurkay was born July 6;1916;in Monessen;a son of the late George and Anna Wishnanski Skurkay. He had resided in the Belle Vernon area for the past 45 years. Mr.Skurkay was a member of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church;Belle Vernon;where he had served as treasurer for many years. He was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II and was a prisoner of war for two and one-half years in Germany. Mr.Skurkay was a member of American Legion Post No.659;Belle Vernon. Surviving are his wife of 45 years;Anna Costella Skurkay;two daughters;Mrs.William (Mary Joan) Weinheimer of Pittsburgh and Mrs.William (Patricia Ann) Snodgrass of Canonsburg;three grandchildren;Kristen Anne Humphrey and Ann Elizabeth and Jonathan Paul Weinheimer;and three sisters;Mrs.May Geezer of Baldwin;Mrs.Margaret Fross of Euclid;Ohio;and Mrs.John (Irene) Talpas of Greensburg. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon. Relatives and friends will gather at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church;Mary Street;Belle Vernon;at 9 a.m.Wednesday for services with the Rev.John Kluchko;pastor;officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Belle Vernon American Legion Post No.659 services will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m.in the funeral home. A Parastas Service will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m.in the funeral home. The family suggests contributions in Mr.Skurkay’s memory may be made to the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church Endowment Fund. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
