Obituary

John B. Deter,a director in the former Rostraver Township School District,died Saturday,April 3,1993,in Jefferson Hills Manor. Mr. Deter,89,was born in Rostraver Township on April 20,1903,a son of the late George W. and Lucinda Insley Deter.  A lifelong resident of the township,he belonged to the First Christian Church of Monessen. Mr. Deter rerired in 1963 from the U.S.Steel plant in Donora where he had worked as a foreman.  Later he worked 10 years in maintenance for the Belle Vernon Area School District,retiring in 1973. Mr. Deter had served for 20 years as school director in the former Rostraver Township School District in the 1940s and 1950s.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Adele Rousseau Deter,on April 20,1987;a daughter,Marjorie Deter Jones,in 1989; two granddaughters,Nan Adele Jones and Kathleen Reiger,and a brother, Samuel Deter. Surviving are one daughter,Eleanor M. Reiger of Belle Vernon R.D.1;a son-in-law,Vencen Jones of Belle Vernon R.D.2; four sisters,Louise Freeman,Mae Hargett and Juliaetta Smith, all of Rutherfordton,N.C.,and Patricia Willis of Gasronia,N.C.;a grandson and his wife,Edward and Pam Reiger of Belle Vernon R.D.1;one great-granddaughter and three great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Conrad Auel of First Christian Church of Monessen officiating.  Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Ferguson Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
