Obituary

John Andrachek Jr., 91, of Belle Vernon, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter Marsha, in Richmond, Virginia on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010. A son of the late John and Mary A. Chemsak Andrachek, he was born in Monessen on Oct. 23, 1918. John retired in 1981 after 42 years with Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen Plant. He was a lifelong member of St Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church of Monessen, and was a member of American Legion Post 659, Belle Vernon. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps, where he was a crew chief on a C-47 and flew over Normandy. He and his late wife enjoyed traveling and visiting with their children. In later years, John also enjoyed going to the casino to play the penny slot machines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Helen A. Sobosle Andrachek, in 2008, a daughter, Margaret Susie Dempsey, in 2004, and two sisters, Anna Panzo and Peggy Lyons. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Evans Andrachek, of White Lakes, Mich., three daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Walter Dinsick, of Richmond, Va., Patricia Peppy and Terry Chambers of Spokane, Wash., and Pauline and Jack Bosko of Derry, N.H., seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two brothers, George and Elmer Andrachek, both of Monessen. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, (724) 929-5300. www.fergusonfuneralhomeandcrematory.com. A Parastas service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. A Panachida service will take place 9:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in the funeral home followed by a Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Stephen Wahal officiating. Entombment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. American Legion Post 659 will hold services at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
