Obituary

John Alfred Reppert, 85, of Belle Vernon, died Thursday, May 6, 2004. A son of the late Paul C. and Myrtle Zundel Reppert, he was born in Belle Vernon on Dec. 31, 1918. In later years, he was raised by his aunt, Edna L. Reppert. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon, a past member of the church's official board of trustees, a life member of the Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department No. 2 and a life member and past two-term president of the Belle Vernon Lions Club, where he served for over 50 years and was a Melvin Jones Award recipient. Mr. Reppert was a life member and past commander of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, a former secretary for the Borough of Belle Vernon and a former member and secretary of the Charleroi Hooting Club. He graduated from the Bertha Leonard Business School, retired in 1976 as a supervisor for the former West Penn Power Company, and he served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Cavalry during World War II. Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Edna Grace and Thomas Tucker Wilkinson of Belle Vernon, with whom he made his home, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles W. and Madeline Reppert of Waynesville, Mo., Franklin and Jean Reppert and Ernest and Donna Reppert, all of Belle Vernon, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Edna L. Reppert, two sisters, Betty Mutich and Joan Rach, and three brothers, Thurman, Howard and Donald Reppert. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC. and CREMATION SERVICE, a Golden Rule Member Firm, (724-929-5300), 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, where funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Tim McConville and Rev Dr. Thomas St Clair co- officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The following groups will meet to hold services in the funeral home on Friday: Belle Vernon VFD No. 2 at 7 p.m., American Legion Post 659 at 7:15 p.m., and the Lions Club at 7:30 p.m.
