Jay F. Sutherland, 97, of Speers, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018 in the home of his daughter. A son of the late Alexander and Sylvia Gaskill Sutherland, he was born in Speers on March 14, 1921. A lifelong resident of Speers, Jay was a member of the Speers United Methodist Church. A U.S. Army Veteran, he had been employed by the former Atlas Company in Charleroi as a salesman, retiring in 1986. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Terri Sue and Darrell Shannon of Speers, a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Lauren Sutherland of Lecanto, FL., a sister, Joyce Danko of Monessen, a brother, Jack Sutherland of Speers, six grandchildren; Kristin and Lou Pergola, Erin and Sam Campieri, Ryan and Jennifer Shannon, Eric and Cathy Sutherland, Ashley Sutherland and Ian Sutherland; seven great-grandchildren; Alyssa Campieri, Katie Pergola, Christian Pergola, Samantha Campieri, Vaughn Shannon, Paige Shannon and Sophia Sutherland; and two great great- grandchild Brenley and Brysen Farner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha Best Sutherland in 2014, two sisters; Doris Sutherland and Adele Rossi, and a brother, George Sutherland.
