Obituary

James W. Hathaway, 82, of Roberts Street, Belle Vernon, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, in Country Care Manor, Fayette City. A son of the late Dewey and Gertrude Hathaway, he was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Beallsville. Protestant by faith, Mr. Hathaway was a veteran of World War II, serving four years, two of which were in Germany. He received five Bronze Stars. Mr. Hathaway graduated from California Teachers College in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education, received his Master's degree in education in 1971 from California State College, and completed an Administrative Program for Principals at the California State College Graduate School in 1977. He retired in 1982 as the assistant principal at Elizabeth Forward High School. Survivors include his wife of six years, Dorothy Katchmark Crusan Hathaway, two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Tess and Danny Blair of Belle Vernon and Kathy and Bob Loker, three stepsons and one daughter-in-law, Phillip Crusan, Kevin and Linda Crusan, and Gerald Crusan, all of Phoenix, Ariz., and four grandchildren, Todd and Ryan Blair, Kari Loker, and Cheyenne Miller. In addition to his parents, Mr. Crusan was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Underwood Hathaway, one brother, Lloyd Hathaway, and one sister, Louise Midla. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., a Golden Rule Member Firm, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Friday, Aug. 16, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Stanley Burdock, pastor of Christ Church Episcopal of Brownsville, officiating. Entombment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
