Obituary

James V. Digger Russell, 67, of 44 Smith St., Charleroi (Fallowfield Township), died Monday, Aug. 16,1999, at 10:13 p.m. at home. He was born May 19,1932, in Charleroi, a son of the late Michael Joseph and Mary Mattis Russell. Mr. Russell was a lifelong resident of the Charleroi community. He was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church of Belle Vernon. Mr. Russell was 1950 Charleroi High School graduate, serving as class president. He pitched on the high school baseball team and was a running back on the football team. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean conflict. He retired as a tractor driver from the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He was also a member of the Charleroi Sportsmans Club. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Mae Skurkay Russell, three sons and a daughter-inlaw, George Russell of San Francisco, Calif., James M. and Susan Russell of North Charleroi and Stephen Russell of Baltimore, Md., one sister, Helen Russell of Johnstown, and two grandchildren, Stephanie and Joseph Russell. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Leonard J. Parzynski Funeral Home, 626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon. Relatives and friends will gather Thursday at 10 a.m.in holy Resurrection Orthodox Church,Mary Street,Belle Vernon,for funeral services with the Rev.John Kluchko,pastor,officiating. interment will follow in belle Vernon Cemetery. Parastas service will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m.in the funeral home. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
