Obituary

James Reed,92,of 511 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,died Tuesday,Sept.17,1996,in Jefferson Hospital. Born May 15,1904,in Belle Vernon,he was a son of the late Joseph and Frances Sacco Reed. Mr. Reed was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon for 67 years.  He was also past president and litetime member of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department.  In additon,he was a charter member and past president of the Belle Vernon Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones award and had perfect attendence for 49 years. He served with several civic organizations and several golf clubs.  He owned and operated Jimmy'a Barber Shop in North Belle Vernon since 1922 and worked with his son in the shop for the last 40 years. Mr. Reed was also a former Republican committee member and was active in Westmoreland County politics. Survivors include his wife of 67 years,Helen Boyd Reed;one son and daughter-in-law,James J.and Nancy Reed;one daughter and son-in-law,Frances Ann and Thomas Fee,all of Belle Vernon;one brother,Arthur Reed of Belle Vernon;four sisters,Millie Caputo and Mrs. Joseph (Virginia) Toth,both of Belle Vernon,Lena Fowler and Genevieve Haffner,both of Pasadena,Calif.;four grandchildren,James A. and Robert A. Reed, Beth Ann Linger and Catherine Ann Montgomery;and four great-grandchildren,Jjames C.,Matthew,Brian and Nathaniel. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by a sister,Carrie Andreis in 1991. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.,700 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon.  Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the First Presbyterain Church of Belle Vernon with the Rev. Ross Bash officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  The North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will hold services Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home,followed by 7:30 p.m.services by the Belle Vernon Lions Club also in the funeral home.  Ferguson Funeral Home Inc.is handling the arrangements.
