Obituary

James R. Jones, 85, of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. A son of the late James A. and Gladys M. Carrier Jones, he was born June 9, 1924, in Belle Vernon. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon, where he served as an elder and was on the property and finance committee, a life member of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, the Tri-County F & A M Lodge 643, the American Legion, Post 659, and served on the board of directors of the Belle Vernon Cemetery Association. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, he retired in 1982 from the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. and served in the Army, armored artillery, during World War II. Jim was an avid sports fan and loved watching his grandchildren in their sports endeavors. Survivors include his wife, Mary Zuro Jones, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on Aug. 20, 2009, one son and daughter-in-law, David B. and Joy K. Jones, of Rosslyn Farms, three grandchildren, Gregory David Jones, Colin Alexander Jones and Caroline Maria Jones, and one sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and Perry Sellman, of Perryopolis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James L. Jones, on Aug. 30, 1975, and one brother, William (Van) Jones. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com. Additional visitation will be from 12:30 until the time of services at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon with the Rev. Suzanne Currie officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
