James L. Payton, 65, of 918 Shady Ave.,Charleroi,died Monday,Jan. 17,1972,at 8 a.m.in his home. Born Jan. 29,1906,in Dunbar, he was a son of the late Patrick and Martha Wilson Payton. Mr. Payton, who had retired from his work as a miner in the Mathies Mine,was a member of United Mineworkers of America,Local 2244. Survivors include his widow,Mrs. Olive Evans Payton;two sons, Joseph Payton of Lambertville,N.J. and James Payton of Burlington,N.C.;two daughters,Mrs. Richard (Mary) Everly and Mrs. Marshall (Audrey) Borne,both of Charleroi;14 grandchildren;a brother,William Payton of Confluence,and a sister, Mrs. Robert Evans of Monessen. Friends will be received at the Harold L. Schrock Funeral Home,226 Fallowfield Ave.,Charleroi,from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m.on Tuesday and Wednesday. Services will be held in the funeral home Thursday,Jan.20,1972,at 1 p.m.,with the Rev.. Glenn Smith,pastor of the Baptist Church,Charleroi,officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.
