Obituary

James F. Mendicino, 89, of Belle Vernon (Washington Township), died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at 6:40 a.m. at Country Care Manor, Washington Township. Born March 17, 1920, in Belle Vernon, son of the late Domenico and Josephine Ambrose Mendicino. A lifelong resident of Washington Township, Mr. Mendicino was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, was a retired union carpenter serving as union president for 20 years. He was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council 3026, enjoyed bowling, working in his garden and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army, serving as a forward observer with the scout 761 unit 398 field artillery, 8th armored division. He is survived by his wife, Irene Modrak Mendicino, to whom he was married 68 years, daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Richard Lubecki, of Washington Township., two grandchildren, James and Jennifer Lubecki, of New Stanton, Lindsay and Michael Anness, of Pittsburgh, two great-grandchildren, Lauryn and Nicholas Lubecki, brother, Michael Mendicino, of North Belle Vernon, five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Ann Ross, of North Belle Vernon, Rose and Leo Sabatini, of Almont, Mich., Adeline and Nick Nuccetelli, of Jeannette, Norma and Ralph Falbo, of White Oak, Teresa and Donald O'Toole, of North Belle Vernon, and a sister-in-law, Kay Mendicino, of North Belle Vernon. He was preceded in death by three infant children, brother Joseph Mendicino, sister-in-law Viola Mendicino, and brother-in-law John Ross. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J. PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183. Prayer service will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by funeral Mass at noon at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence L. Manchas Pastor as celebrant. Interment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Members of St Sebastian parish will pray the rosary for the departed soul of James Mendicino Tuesday at 3 p.m., Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus will conduct services Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. and the Belle Vernon American Legion will conduct services Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. all in the funeral borne.
