Obituary

James Carter Etrheridge Sr.of 425 Belle Vernon Apartments died Sunday,Oct.2,1983,at 11 p.m. at the home of his son,James C.Etheridge Jr.,of Monessen. He was 76. Mr.Etheridge was born Oct.12,1906,in Union Springs,Ala.,a son of the late Mitchell and Anna Carlton Etheridge. In addition to his parents,he was preceded in death by an infant son,two sisters,Emma Gaskill and Exilee Greenwood,and two brothers,Lonnie and Governor Etheridge. Mr.Etheridge,who resided in Lock Four as a child,moved to Belle Vernon in 1927 after his marriage. He was a member of the Speer Street A.M.E.Church,where he served for 30 years as Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of the Trustees,the Steward Board and the choir of the church. Mr.Etheridge was a member of the Belle Vernon Golden Agers. Survivors include his wife,Mary Esther Woodson Etheridge,one son,James Carter Etheridge Jr.,of Monessen,a daughter-in-law,Georgianna Etheridge of Monessen,two grandchildren,James Craig Etheridge of Los Angeles,Calif.,and Geri Lee Etheridge of Monessen,two sisters,Anna Beattle of Chicago,Ill.,and Pearl Corbelt of Ohio,two sisters-in-law,Leah Whitesides and Hallie Corley,both of Belle Vernon,one brother-in-law,Jackson Craig Woodson of Belle Vernon,and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home,626 Broad Ave.,Belle Vernon,where a private memorial service will be held Tuesday afternoon for the family,with the Rev.Milton Roberts,pastor of the Speer Street A.M.E.Church,officiating. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. The Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
