Obituary

James Murphy,64,of 430 Ella St.,Donora,died Thursday morning,Jan. 30,1964 at 8 a.m. in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital after a lingering illness.  He was born in Hurt,Va.,Oct. 17,1898 and came to Donora from Virginia in 1924. He was a member of Donora First Baptist Church and Donora Negro Political and Social Club.  He was a retired employee of American Steel and Wire Division. Surviving are his widow,Mrs. Coreen Murphy;one son,William Murphy of Philadelphia;two daughters, Mrs. Roxy Hickes of Philadelphia and Mrs. Ethel Thomas of Washington,D.C.;two step-daughters,Mrs. Wanetta James of Donora and Mrs. Greta Chatters of Los Angeles, Calif.,one foster daughter, Mrs. Beverly Watkins of Donora; ons sister,Mrs. Dolly Hickes of Cleveland,Ohio;four brothers, Thomas Gilbert, David Gilbert and Rueben Gilbert,all of Washington,D.C.and Jonathan Gilbert of Charlottesville,Va.;and nine grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Percy Law,Jr. Funeral Home in Donora after 7 p.m. Saturday,Feb. 1. Service at the First Baptist Church of Donora on Monday, Feb.3.at 11 a.m. in charge of the Rev. John E. Washington,pastor.  Interment in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Percy Law,Jr.,funeral director.
