Obituary

Jacob I. Smock,87,of Belle Vernon R.D.3 died Thursday,April 15,1971 at 3:30 a.m. in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital after a lingering illness.  He was born May 11,1883,in Belle Vernon,a son of the late Marion and Sarah Jane Smock.  He and his father laid out the streets of Monessen and Donora with teams of horses.  He was a retired farmer.  Survving are four sons,Robert and Eldridge,both of Belle Vernon,Marion of Phoenix,Ariz.,and Jake of Portage,Ind.;one daughter,Mrs. Edwin (Hazel) Kierth of Toledo,Ohio;16 grandchildren;57 great-grandchildren four great-great-grandchildren;and three sisters,Mrs.Samantha Allbright and Georgeann Lehew,both of Belle Vernon,and Betty Evans of Mingo Junction,Ohio.  Friends are being received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. at the Harold R.Toner Funeral Home,Belle Vernon,where services will be held Saturday,April 17,at 2 p.m.with the Rev. Alfie Clayton of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church officiating.   Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery.  Harold R.Toner,funeral director.
